Phishing attacks for example are designed to bypass these ringfences and its important that Staff are trained to spot phishing attempts but also you take a multi-layered approach to your defences to protect the data a school holds.
Having a backup to you data is great to help you recover from a cyber attack however it doesnt help you defend against them. More often that not, once a Cyber Criminal knows you have a backup, the attack then turns into extortion, with the threat of selling your data on the blackmarket to the highest bidder.
